At a performance last September, the Classic City Dixiedawgs assisted St. Philothea Greek Orthodox Church in raising $4000 to assist a member of their congregation with medical bills resulting from a lung transplant. The recipient underwent a successful double-lung transplant at Duke University Medical Center shortly thereafter, and has recovered fully.
The musicians who participated were both moved and thankful for the opportunity to have been a part of the fundraising. The mission of the Classic City Band is to provide music and entertainment to the community free of charge for civic and charitable events. Thanks to all the players at that performance and to all members of the Classic City Band for being a part of a great civic opportunity.
