Soloist brings Copland’s songs to life
Cubby Rupers, 11, homeschooled, will sing Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs at the Classic
City Band’s Spring Concert, March 24, 2012 at 7:30 at Cedar Shoals High School Auditorium.
Cubby performed as a principal orphan in Theater of the Stars/Fox Theatre’s January 2012
performance of Annie. She played the title role in Athens Creative Threatre’s Fall 2011
production of My Son Pinocchio. She sang a solo as a village child in UGA Opera Ensemble’s
Fall 2011 production of La Bohème; and she played young Sandi and sang a duet with Sandi
Patty in Orchestra Kentucky’s Spring 2011 production of Sandi Patty on Broadway. She sings
with the Georgia Children’s Chorus.
“I have been singing as long as I have been talking! My very first public performance was when
I was 3 years old. I sang during my mom’s piano recital. I stood on a chair and sang ‘I’m Gonna
Wrap Up Myself for Christmas,’ and my mom accompanied me on piano. I have been singing
ever since!” says Cubby.
Her favorite songs to sing are from musicals or Disney movies. She also likes to sing Christian
contemporary. She plays the violin, guitar, and piano. She writes music and performed a song
she wrote, “The Best Gift of Them All” for her church at Christmastime. Here’s a link for your enjoyment:
